we sat and talked for about 2 hours mostly about before we started dating and how much fun we had, that was what I missed most and I hated myself for ruining that.
"Who is that?" Brain pointed to a car slowing down.
"Oh shit, that's Nick." I ran over to the car He got out and looked at Brian, he had never seen him before so he didn't know who he was.
"Who is he?" I looked at him in a way I guess that was telling because I couldn't even answer before he Knew.
"That's Brian huh?" he twirled his keys "Well he is a good looking guy isn't he."
"Nick it's not at all what you think okay, I told you I would be honest with you about him so please just listen."
"I don't think I want to hear it." He opened his car door and I shut it.
"Don't leave right now, give me a chance to explain." He turned and looked at me and I could tell he was angry and hurt.
"Explain what, explain that your sitting on your porch with you ex-boyfriend that you dated for two years and broke up just because you moved here, Better be a damn good explanation."
"It's not like that at all and you know it! He came here and I didn't even know he was, he surprised me and caught me way off guard, you can't blame me for that!"
"How long has he been here?" I didn't want to lie
"About two hours."
"And you couldn't pick up the phone to tell me, you have been sitting with him for two hours and I have to find out by driving up here, would you have even told me if I didn't come here?"

"Are you sure." I was never emotional, ever the last time I cried was when my dog died in 5Th grade, but for some reason I felt a tear roll down my Cheek.
"You don't even trust me" I looked at him "do you Nick?" He got in his car and sat down he was about to close the door.
"I don't trust him." He slammed the door and drove off, I guess not crying for ten years it builds up and I couldn't stop I walked up the steps right past Brian and went into my room.
I don't know were he went but I didn't care, All I cared about was Nick.
I kept calling him for about 30 minutes but he wouldn't pick up and I didn't Know what to do. I fell asleep for about 4 hours when my phone started to blink, it was a voicemail from Nick.
"I'm sorry I left so Abruptly but I don't know were we stand right now, you are either over him or your not, that simple. I have a flight at 9 in the morning tomorrow and I'm gone for a week. If you want to talk come over now."
The voicemail was from about and hour ago I flew downstairs grabbed my jacket and sped off to his place.

Chapter 10
Two Months Later
"Nick!" I said gasping for air "Get off me, you are really going to kill me!"
"Not until you give me that pop tart, its the last one."
"Never! Its chocolate you know that's my favorite! get a piece of toast you asshole!"
I rolled around pushing him quickly off of me and ran to the bathroom and locked the door
I shoved the pop tart down my throat laughing, I listened out of the door and heard Nick grunting
"You kicked me In the balls." Oh man I was dead
"No I didn't!" I opened the door and ran to Nick laying on the ground.
"I am so sorry!! you want me to get you some Ice?"
He jumped up so fast I screamed, he picked me up and threw me on the couch and started to tickle me.
"ssstop I, I my god stopp!" I couldn't stop laughing "Get offf!!!"
"Okay I will but first say I'm the best boyfriend in the world and I have manly muscles."
"That wouldn't work, stop!!!, first off I'm not a boy! second I have girly muscles!"
"Fair enough, I need a shower, want to join?"
"No you jerk!" I threw a pillow at him and then he picked me up and threw me over his shoulder and took me into the bathroom.
Nick has asked me to be his girlfriend about 3 weeks ago, at first I had said no and we kind of didn't talk for about a week, In that week I realized that Nick treated me better then any other guy and he made me happy, I felt like I deserved that. He made me forget about Brian and he never let me down. We have been going strong ever since.
"I don't know what to wear....I don't have a dress."
"What girl doesn't have a dress?"
"I do, but not here" I was looking though my dresser I kept at his place.
"Just get ready without getting changed and we can stop at Your house."
"But that's out of the way."
"It's okay we can leave a little earlier. I'm sure my brother won't mind waiting anyway." He walk out of the room pushing me onto the bed
"You sir are a royal pain in the ass!" I yelled as he walked into the bathroom.
We both finished getting ready and headed to his car.
"Do you think your brother will like me? I'm really nervous, does he speak English too or is that just you?" He looked at me and rubbed my leg
"I'm sure he will like you and he does speak English, just not as much as I do."
he pulled up to Josh's house and as I got out he revved the engine, It made me jump
"you live to scare me don't you!"
"It wouldn't be funny if you weren't so jumpy."
"You lucky I think its funny or I would really kick you in the balls!"
He winked and I ran Inside and picked out the christmas dress I wore last year some leggings and My Cardy sweater uggs
"Hurry up we are going to be late and Kris will be so mad he had to wait!"
"But I thought you said..."
"I know what I said get in here girl!" I laughed and jumped in the car
We went to this really nice Italian restaurant and his brother Kris was already there. He gave nick a hug and then hugged me.
"I have heard a lot about you, I sorry if my English bad." He sounded just like his Nick but looked nothing like him
"Its okay My Swedish is non existent." He laughed and him a nick looked at each other
"I'm trying to teach her some but i swear she has ADD." I shoved him. Kris looked confused
"Whats that?" Nick told him in Swedish and they both laughed at me
We had a very nice dinner. Me and Kris tried out best to make conversation Nick ended up being a translator. We walked out side and Nick took me over to the side
"Hey I was thinking the rest of the night I could hang out with my brother I haven't seen Him in so long it's not that I don't like having you around it's just.." I stopped him
"Nick I completely understand you don't have to explain if you could just drop me off at your place my car is there I need it for work tomorrow." He kissed me and took my hand
"Of course think I would leave you out here."
I was almost home when my phone started to ring
"Brain? I haven't talked to you in forever..." I was not happy he called me.
"Yeah remember when I told you I had a surprise for you."
"That was a long time ago and this call is a little inappropriate." He sighed
"I know you have a new guy but trust me for once like you used to, please."
"Well what is it." I got out of my car and walked up to the door.

"Surprise."

Chapter 9
"So what exactly do you want me to do?" Josh handed me a bag full of papers.
"Well these are promotion coupons, I gave you a list of stores I want you to stop by, hand these out to them, they are pretty much just a coupon for 3 free drinks if they come to my club tomorrow night." I wish I could go to bad I was only 19
"And this gets you business." he shook his head.
"Of course, people never turn down a free drink and by the time they have had those 3 they are a little buzzed and buy a lot more. Just don't get lost this time Kat."
"I won't." He gave me a look.
"I promise!"
I spent 4 hours driving around giving these coupons out, it was extremely boring and some creepy old guy tried to feel me up.
"And I left Denver for this." I said to myself In a horrible mood. My pocket started to vibrate. It was a text message.
"Hey having fun yet?" thank god, hopefully nick will cure my boredom.
"No, this is really boring and I'm cold, but the city is pretty."
"Well I'm glad you like it here, and I guess your Avs sweater isn't keeping you warm, could that be a sign." I liked how he always made me feel better.
"No because I'm not even wearing it! If I was I probably wouldn't be cold!"
"Ah man well you got me there, well I got to go I have this thing just wanted to see how you were doing, if you get off early again give me a call."
"Your game is tomorrow though don't you athletes need to do like a focus thing before game day?" I had no idea what I was talking about but it sounded good so I went with it.
"Don't worry about it, you won't bother me."
"Ok, I will call you when I'm done."
"Alright."
It was around 8 when I got back to the office when Josh stopped me.
"Hey so we are going to use your drawling for a couple of our posters can you just sign this paper giving us permission to use it.
"Yeah no problem, I wanted to talk to you too." we walked to his office.
"What is it Kat."
"So nick gave me tickets for tomorrow nights game and I was wondering if you could go, I mean I know its going to be a Saturday but is there any chance." He laughed and rolled his eyes
"Kat I am my own boss I make up my own hours and if you didn't invite me I would probably have to fire you." I was excited he could go the last game I had gone to was with Riley and Brandon and we went to the first game of the playoffs last year against the red wings it was a big disappointment. Hopefully this would be a bit funner.
"So you and Nick are spending a lot of time together." Josh said nudging my arm.
"Yeah I guess but I don't think I'm ready for a new boyfriend yet." Brian was still haunting me all the way from Denver.
"I think that's a good idea your a young girl move slow, well anyway your done so you can head home, by the way what time is the game tomorrow?"
"7:30 I'm thinking we can just leave at 7 and we will be fine."
"You definably can tell you haven't lived here long, traffic on a Saturday is hell we should probably leave at 6:30."
"Sounds good to me, I will see you at home." I walked to my car and called nick.
"Hey I'm leaving know do you still want me to come over." I was hoping he would say yes, I wanted to see him.
"Yeah just try not to yell in my speaker you might wake my neighbors up." I laughed
"Damn I must be a loud mouth."
"That's an understatement."
"Wow!! A hole much?!"
"I'm just kidding, I will see you in like 20 minutes."
"Okay see ya."
This time it took me about a half and hour because of Friday night traffic, I parked and walked over to the apartment building, Nick buzzed me in.
"Hey how was work." He gave me a hug and escorted me in.
"It was ok, I just have to remind myself why I'm doing this."
"stick with it your doing a good thing."
"Thanks." I took my jacket off and say down
"So were is your world famous spaghetti?" he smiled
"I just got home about 30 minutes ago."
"Really where were you?"
"Just filming a capitals special for the game tomorrow. It will play during the game."
"Oooh I can't wait to see that."
He laid down on the couch and I followed, I rested my head on his chest and we both fell asleep. It was about 5 in the morning when my phone started to ring.
"Whats that noise?" I got up trying to look for my phone.
"It's my phone I think it fell in the cushions, I'm sorry would you mind scooting over?" He moved over and I could tell he was extremely tired.
"Hello?"
"Kat were are you? I just got home from work and your car is not here." just getting home?! I guess he stays at the club the whole night.
"I'm sorry I went over Nicks and I fell asleep." It was silent "you there?"

"I just fell asleep everything is ok."
"Alright I just hope you know what your doing."
we said goodbye and hung up. I sat up on the couch putting my feet on the floor and my hand on Nicks stomach.
"I'm going to go okay?"
"Now? its 5 in the morning.''
"I know Its just I want you to be able to be calm before your game and I don't want to bother you, plus Josh is a little worried."
"Alright, well let me get my shoes I will walk you down to your car." He walked into the other room to grab his sneakers.
"You don't have to do that."
"I know, but I want to."

Chapter 8
"Please!!!" I was begging him, looking at him to give me at least one clue to why I should be nervous.
"I'm not telling you anything, and calm down you will be fine." How was I suppose to know, he made me so nervous.
"Are they going to drill me or something, can you stop at my place so I can at least change, good god I forgot I was wearing this Jersey, I need to take this off! Do you have an extra sweatshirt?!" He laughed and put his hand on my knee.
"Trust me you will be fine and I was just messing with you, and keep your Jersey on they will get a kick out of it." I let out a big sigh
"Man your gonna get it."
"Get what? you see how small you are, you couldn't even beat up a housefly."
"Yeah I may be tiny but I'm feisty, and I will not hesitate to bite!" He rolled his eyes
"I'm guessing this is your sorry attempt to scare me, I'm so frighten." I playfully pushed him
"Yeah that's what I thought big shot."
We pulled into the parking lot, some of the guys had already made it there, even though nick said he was just playing I was a little scared of what they would think of me.
It was mostly the younger guys that came out to eat. Nick introduced me one by one. He introduced me as his friend, and believe it or not I was a bit happy he did that, I liked him a lot but I didn't know if I was ready for a full out relationship.
We sat down, and everyone ordered a drink.
"So were you from?" Shaone Morrison looked over as he took a drink.
"I'm from Denver, this is the first time I have ever left the state of Colorado."
"How do you like it here, different?" This wasn't too bad
"It's nice I like it, I still haven't seen everything I'm just excited to leave Colorado."
"I got one! How does Nicky pick up a pretty girl like you?!" Ovechkins voice overpowered every ones. And I couldn't help but think he looked like the cavemen from the Geico commercials, but it worked for him.
"eharmony." A couple of them laughed at my horrible joke
"Whats that." Who didn't know what eharmony was?!
"Nevermind" I laughed and he smiled.
It defiantly was not as bad as Nick made it out to be. I was able to talk to a few more of the players and they all seemed pretty down to earth, a few of them poked fun at my jersey.
We said our goodbyes and all told me they hoped to see me again.
"And you told me to be nervous? That was like a walk in the park."
"Yeah well you weren't sitting near Ovechkin, lucky you."
"Okay well I will give you that one, did I make a good impression?"
"Does it matter?" wow, that was rude
"Whats that suppose to mean." He laughed
"Nothing at all don't take it like that, I just don't want you to think that everyone has to like you in order for me to like you." Well that made sense
"I'm sorry." he pulled me in to were my head was resting on his shoulder and his arm was around me.
"You get so worried all the time, just take a breath and calm down, your a great person and you don't have to prove anything to me."

We had made it back to the car at about 2
"I guess I have to take you home now. But I have a gift for you." I looked at him, a little surprised
"Are you serious, please you don't have to get me anything."
"It's no big deal, its just tickets to our game tomorrow night, you can bring your cousin if you want, its behind the penalty box." This was great, if I was this excited then josh was going to pass out.
"Oh my god, this is awesome I have never sat this close, but I guess I won't see you in that box."
"Are you saying I'm a pushover?!" He laughed as he started his car.
"Not what I meant! you just don't get a lot of penalties, that's a good thing!"
"Whatever I'm going to kick someones ass tomorrow night." I knew he wouldn't
"Ok I will be waiting for that and I will make sure to take a picture."
"Really, make sure you tag me." I let out one of those laughs that you try to hold in.
"Why are you laughing at me." he seemed so concern.
"Tag me? are you a high school cheerleader?"
"No, I'm the high school whore." I gasped

we pulled up to the practice arena to pick up my car. I leaned over to hug him goodbye. He gently pulled my head back in and kissed me. Brian never kissed me like that. I didn't want to fall for him I wasn't ready for this but he sure was making it hard.
"Have fun at work, you will be there tomorrow?"
"duh! I will be waiting to see you in that penalty box."
I started to walk to my car when he rolled his window down and shouted out.

It was mostly the younger guys that came out to eat. Nick introduced me one by one. He introduced me as his friend, and believe it or not I was a bit happy he did that, I liked him a lot but I didn't know if I was ready for a full out relationship.
We sat down, and everyone ordered a drink.
"So were you from?" Shaone Morrison looked over as he took a drink.
"I'm from Denver, this is the first time I have ever left the state of Colorado."
"How do you like it here, different?" This wasn't too bad
"It's nice I like it, I still haven't seen everything I'm just excited to leave Colorado."
"I got one! How does Nicky pick up a pretty girl like you?!" Ovechkins voice overpowered every ones. And I couldn't help but think he looked like the cavemen from the Geico commercials, but it worked for him.
"eharmony." A couple of them laughed at my horrible joke
"Whats that." Who didn't know what eharmony was?!
"Nevermind" I laughed and he smiled.
It defiantly was not as bad as Nick made it out to be. I was able to talk to a few more of the players and they all seemed pretty down to earth, a few of them poked fun at my jersey.
We said our goodbyes and all told me they hoped to see me again.
"And you told me to be nervous? That was like a walk in the park."
"Yeah well you weren't sitting near Ovechkin, lucky you."
"Okay well I will give you that one, did I make a good impression?"
"Does it matter?" wow, that was rude
"Whats that suppose to mean." He laughed
"Nothing at all don't take it like that, I just don't want you to think that everyone has to like you in order for me to like you." Well that made sense
"I'm sorry." he pulled me in to were my head was resting on his shoulder and his arm was around me.
"You get so worried all the time, just take a breath and calm down, your a great person and you don't have to prove anything to me."
"Thanks."
We had made it back to the car at about 2
"I guess I have to take you home now. But I have a gift for you." I looked at him, a little surprised
"Are you serious, please you don't have to get me anything."
"It's no big deal, its just tickets to our game tomorrow night, you can bring your cousin if you want, its behind the penalty box." This was great, if I was this excited then josh was going to pass out.
"Oh my god, this is awesome I have never sat this close, but I guess I won't see you in that box."
"Are you saying I'm a pushover?!" He laughed as he started his car.
"Not what I meant! you just don't get a lot of penalties, that's a good thing!"
"Whatever I'm going to kick someones ass tomorrow night." I knew he wouldn't
"Ok I will be waiting for that and I will make sure to take a picture."
"Really, make sure you tag me." I let out one of those laughs that you try to hold in.
"Why are you laughing at me." he seemed so concern.
"Tag me? are you a high school cheerleader?"
"No, I'm the high school whore." I gasped
"Nick!"
"What, don't hate me because you ain't me." I just cracked up.
"Yeah that's it."
we pulled up to the practice arena to pick up my car. I leaned over to hug him goodbye. He gently pulled my head back in and kissed me. Brian never kissed me like that. I didn't want to fall for him I wasn't ready for this but he sure was making it hard.
"Have fun at work, you will be there tomorrow?"
"duh! I will be waiting to see you in that penalty box."
I started to walk to my car when he rolled his window down and shouted out.
"Tag me!"
I laughed when I got into my rental car and drove off to D.C.

Chapter 7
"Why are you calling me right now?" I was a little aggravated
"I can just not call you if you going to be pissed every time I call you." He was right I'm sure he meant no harm
"I'm sorry how are you." I really didn't care to much I was still mad at the way he talked to me when I told him I was leaving.
"I'm good I just miss you a lot not just as a girlfriend but I miss my best friend too." I hope he didn't think we were still together
"Brian, honestly where do you think we stand right now, in our relationship?"
"I still consider you my girlfriend." Oh great now I'm a cheater
"I thought when I left that was it, we broke up." It was silent on the phone for a bit.
"You already found someone new, didn't you." I didn't know what to say
"Look Brian when..." He cut me off very abruptly
"Save it, your ridiculous I'm the best thing that has ever happened to you and your going to throw it away so quick. I can have any girl I want at a snap of my finger but I chose you. wow your a joke."
"Brian you talk to me like this and you wonder why." I couldn't even finish before he hung up on me
Should I feel bad? I didn't know what to feel, as a boyfriend he was horrible but I just lost my best friend, Someone I used to spend every day with. My childhood Friend.
I started to drive home, I was upset and in bad mood I wanted to get Brian off my mind so I pulled out my phone.
"Hey you ok, you just left?" Hearing Nicks voice shifted my mood.
"Yeah well when I left Brian called me." Once again silence on the other end, did I piss him off too?
"Oh."
"Look I'm not his girlfriend believe it I'm over him and when I tried to tell him that and he got mad and well, am I wrong?" I didn't know if he even cared and whether I should bother him with this.
"Can you answer me a question?" I hesitated to say yes, wondering what it would be.
"Yeah of course."
"How do you feel about me, where do you think this is going?" I knew where I wanted this to go but now i was wondering if he felt the same.
"I want to get to know you, I never had a guy treat me like you do, I have had and ass of a boyfriend for the last two years and I'm ready to move on from that, and I hope you would help me."
"If you remain honest with me about Brian and how you feel about him I think we can continue this, I really like you....a lot I just don't want to be blind sighted by this kid Brian.
"You won't I promise." I think he heard the hurt In my voice
"Don't even worry about what he has to say. This is your time not his and trust you gut feeling."
"Thanks.... I'm sorry i even bothered you about this that was stupid."
"Don't ever hesitate to call me when you need to talk."
"Ok, thank you i will see you tomorrow."
"Be safe see you tomorrow.
Nick had made me feel so much better and at least I knew how he felt about me now. As soon as i got home I plopped into bed and fell asleep.
I woke up to my phone ringing again. I picked it up and before I could even say anything Nicks voice filled my ears.
"Goodmorning sunshine! you a morning person yet?"
"Far from it." He laughed and it made me smile.
"Well I can defiantly tell your morning voice isn't sounding much better."
"Your just jealous because you wish you voice was as sexy as mine." I was lying his voice was way sexier then mine."
"That's it I always wish I sounded like troll in the morning."
"Shut up you like it!" I must say I don't mind this wake up call
"Yeah, yeah I do. You better get up or you are going to be late again."
I got ready It took me about an hour and I wanted to look good I made it a point to put my Joe Sakic Jersey on just to spite him. I laughed to myself a bit. When I got to the rink I sat right in the front row this time. Nick skated right over.
"You really do have enough of those to make me jealous. I'm getting you a Capitals jersey."
"Who says I'm going to wear it." I gave him a playful look.
"Me."
"Well ok but only for you. And if you get me that kids jersey, whats his name, Nicklas Backstrom I wont wear it I can't stand him."
"Oh really well why don't you tell me how you really feel." There was that quirky smile again I don't know how he does it but it is adorable. "I'm gonna get back do you have a little time after practice to hang out me and some of the boys are going to get food."
"Yeah I just have to leave at around 2:30." I was excited to meet everyone again and actually having a chance to talk to them without Josh asking a million questions.
I waited outside for him. I was leaning on his car checking my makeup in his mirror.
"You look great." I jumped
"You scared me. I just wanted to make sure my make up wasn't running." He gave me a hug and then kissed me. I guess I had a shocked look on my face because he looked at me funny.
"Whats that face for?"
"Sorry wow didn't no my face looked like that, I just wasn't expecting that caught me off guard."
"Sorry was I wrong." Were you wrong? were you wrong?!! hell no you can kiss me any day. But i didn't say that out loud.
"No not at all.
"Good." he smiled
he threw his stuff in the back and shouted over to someone who looked like Ovechkin.
"Meet you there?" It was defiantly Ovechkin with his heavy accent.
"Yeah If you get there first get a table for 10!" 10 wow I didn't know that many of them where coming.
we got into the car and he turned and looked at me.
"You nervous?"
"No, should I be." He rubbed my neck
"You sure should be." He laughed and then I became nervous.

Chapter 6
"How do you like it so far." Josh creeped around the corner and scared me half to death.
"Wow! you could knock I almost peed myself!" I threw a paper ball at him
"I'm sorry but that was too funny! Come up with anything yet?" I was a pretty good artist so Josh had me working on some new ideas for promotional fliers.
"I don't know I'm having a writers block, artist version." He came over to take a look at what I had done.
"If you just put a wave behind that or something it will be badass."
"Good Idea!" I started to draw it right away.
"Before I go I know it's only 8 but you have got some pretty good stuff here as soon as your finished drop it off in my office and you can get outta here." How was I suppose to leave I didn't have a car and before I could even say anything he had already read my mind.
"I also pulled some strings and got you a rental car here are the keys, take care of it."
"Thanks Josh! will do."
as soon as I was done I called Nick. I have been eager to talk to him ever since he dropped me off.
"Whats up kid?"
"Kid what am I 12? I just left work I will be there in like 20 minutes is that okay?"
"Yeah that's great. I picked out a great movie Its all in Swedish you will love it though." I couldn't tell if he was joking or not.
"Are you serious?" I think he could tell in my voice I believed him
"Of course not." He laughed "Just let me know when your here so I can buzz you in." The drive was peaceful and for some reason I started to think about Brian. I quickly shook it off and turned up the radio.
"I'm here!" I yelled into the microphone
"Could you be any louder?" Why did he have to test me? I yelled a little louder.
"You haven't heard anything yet!"
"Ok, ok I guess I have to let you in." I loved how he was playful
He buzzed me in and I made my way to his apartment.
"Wow it's really nice in here."
"Yeah but it's not a big as your cousins house." This was true
"Yeah well owning a few clubs he rolls around in his money I like when people are more moderate with it." He laughed
"Well I guess we are a perfect match." I smiled at him
"Want some spaghetti I made, Its a secret recipe called Ragu." I just laughed and shook my head.
"Well that sounds like 5 start dining I will have to try that then you will have to give me the recipe." I ate a little bit but I wasn't to hungry. We sat down on the couch as he popped in The Blair Witch Project.
"You have got to be kidding me, Ok i will admit I'm a tough girl but when it comes to scary movies well, I get scared." He scooted over and put his arm around me.
"I will keep you safe." I felt so comfortable and felt like I have known him forever
The movie was horrible because I was scared the whole time, closing my eyes and holding my ears.
"So did you like it?" he said sarcastically just to pick on me.
"What do you think boy! that scared the crap out of me!" I made sure to smile at him so he didn't think I was really mad.
"Well tough girl we will just watch Bambi next time." I shot him a look
It was 11 and I knew he needed to go to bed for morning skate so I decided to leave and let him sleep.

Chapter 5
"Did you want your normal table?" The Host proceeded to pick up some menus.
"If you have it that would be great.
"So I guess you bring a lot of girls here." I was half serious half not
"No not at all, we come here with the boys a lot." I felt bad for saying that.
We sat down and ordered our drinks and food
"So tell me a bit about yourself, I know nothing." He looked at me, my god were those eyes beautiful
"You sure I won't bore you?"
"No not at all."
"Well lets see, I'm the baby of the family cousins and all. I have four older brothers Brandon, Chris, Johnny, and Riley. Johnny and Riley are both in college, Brandon and Chris have graduated and both are married. My family is huge and Irish so at family get together there is always a fight and someone is always wasted, but I love them to death and would never trade them for the world, how about you?"
"I will have to watch myself especially with four older brothers." We both laughed and I told him not to worry about it. "Well i also have an older brother and his name is Kris too, he plays hockey back in Sweden, my dad also played Hockey in Sweden, so I'm the first to play in the NHL."
"That's really cool they must be really proud of you."
"They are, I also have been wondering how a beautiful girl like yourself doesn't have a boyfriend." I contemplated telling him about Brian but I thought I should be honest
"Well about that, I did have a boyfriend until I came to Virginia." He looked at me and he looked a little disappointed
"I'm guessing he didn't want you to come here."
"Yeah that's the story. I mean we have been friends since we were in diapers but he is such and asshole at times and I decided to move on and lookout for myself now." I knew he would be skeptical of my intentions now and I felt bad.
"Well that's a good idea how about we eat and take a walk so I can show you around."
We finished up and of course he paid, such a gentleman. As we walked out the door he rubbed my back and I felt butterflies in my stomach, something I haven't felt is so long. We walked around for about an hour just talking about our families and other things. He signed a few Autographs and took a few pictures.
"This has been really fun thank you so much, I'm sorry to cut it short but i have to get to work soon."
"Oh yeah I forgot, what do you do?"
"I'm helping my cousins promote his clubs in D.C."
"Well that must be fun."
"I hope it is this is my first day."
"I better get you home then so your not late."
"Thanks again I had a lot of fun." I smiled at him and he smiled back
"How late do you work today?" I did not know the answer to that so I quickly texted Josh
"Well Josh said till 9." He looked excited when I said that

Chapter 4
"Kat you might want to answer your phone it has been ringing like every 5 minutes it woke me up." I turned to look at my phone and it said 4 missed calls from a number I didn't know.
"Hello?" My morning voice sounded horrible.
"Hey it's Nick, Nick Backstrom its like 8:00 you told me you might need some help getting up, man you sound really tired."
"Yeah not a morning person remember." he laughed and then I realize why I would ever get up this early on purpose.
"Ok well the skate starts at 9:30 don't eat I want to show you around take you out to eat." It was so sweet of him to do that and then I remember i forgot to tell him I invited Josh.
"Oh about that I'm sorry I invited my cousin He was so excited Is that ok?"
"Ok course I'm sure he knows the town but we can pretend he doesn't, your are sounding a bit more like a human."
"Shut up! I can't help it I love sleep." He started to laugh
"Well you better not be late morning skates are so thrilling!" He said it so sarcastic I almost thought about bringing my Ipod.
"Hello?" My morning voice sounded horrible.
"Hey it's Nick, Nick Backstrom its like 8:00 you told me you might need some help getting up, man you sound really tired."
"Yeah not a morning person remember." he laughed and then I realize why I would ever get up this early on purpose.
"Ok well the skate starts at 9:30 don't eat I want to show you around take you out to eat." It was so sweet of him to do that and then I remember i forgot to tell him I invited Josh.
"Oh about that I'm sorry I invited my cousin He was so excited Is that ok?"
"Ok course I'm sure he knows the town but we can pretend he doesn't, your are sounding a bit more like a human."
"Shut up! I can't help it I love sleep." He started to laugh
"Well you better not be late morning skates are so thrilling!" He said it so sarcastic I almost thought about bringing my Ipod.
"Okay I'm getting up right now, rolling out of bed right now." I really wasn't
"I'm sure you are, If you are not there how will i get you autographs?" I hopped up so fast I almost took my breath away.
"Are you serious, I can meet some of the players!" He laughed a little and then I realized that sounded a little bad.
"Well I guess since meeting me Dosen't matter." Atleast he laughed so he knew I didn't mean it like that.
"Whatever! you know I was excited when I figured out who you were." My phone began to light up again.
"Hey i have another call I'm going to flip over real quick."
"It's ok don't worry I will just see you at Skate."
"Ok. see you there." We hung up
"Hello?"
"Hey babe whats up I'm surprise your up." I knew that voice anywhere
"Hey Brian how are you." I sighed and he heard it
"Well don't sound so happy to talk to me. I wanted to let you know that I miss you and I have a big surprise." I loved presents!
"What is it?!" my voice perked up
"Well know you sound happy! I can't tell you your going to have to wait but i have to go to work i wanted to call you before I started."
"Ok well see ya."
"Bye hun."
I quickly got into the shower and blow dried and straightened my hair. I made a point to put one of my Avs sweatshirt this one had Avalanche written down the sleeve. I don't wear much make-up but I never leave the house without eyeliner and mascara.
"Hurry up you are always late lets go!!" Josh yelled upstairs, he always gets so excited about things like this I couldn't help but be excited too.
We made it to the arena and sat down they were already on the ice, and of course I was late.
"Where is he I don't see him." I was looking around then josh tapped me on the shoulder.
"Right there. Next to Nylander." I saw him and my heart jumped a little.
He skated over to the glass and waved for me to come down.
"Nice sweatshirt. How many of those do you have." I once again had that dorky smile
"I have enough to make you jealous." He laughed and turned around as one of the coaches called his name.
"Ok well I got to go but I will text your right after we are done."
After practice was done we got a few autographs and Josh was practically Drooling
"You guys ready for lunch?" I gave Josh a secret nudge telling him to say he had to leave. He got the hint.
"Well I actually have to go to work and do some... some um paper work that's it." He was horrible at lying
"Ok well nice to meet you. I will make sure to take care of her" He pulled me in and gave me a half hug.
Josh left and Nick walked me to his car. He threw his gear in the trunk and opened the passenger door for me.
"What are you in the mood for?" He was looking at me like I knew the answer to life
"Whatever you like here. I don't no the restaurants around here surprise me."
"I sure will try." I notice he drove a stick and I have always wanted to try to drive one.
"Can I try that?" He seemed confused.
"What the stick? Yeah put your hand on it I will show you how to shift."
as soon as I put my hand on it he put his hand on top of mine. I felt like I was 13 again and a boy had just written me a note that said do you like me.
"Your pretty good at this. I hope you don't mind me saying your hands are really soft too." I giggled like a school girl. I wanted to punch myself I never act like this.
"Wow I almost missed my turn." He pulled into a sushi restaurant "This place is amazing I hope you don't mind."
"No not at all but i eat the fake sushi like California rolls." He laughed and once again opened the door for me
we walked in and the host had already knew him
"Hello Nick two?"
Chapter 3
"So what brings you to D.C.?" his accent was so adorable but kind of hard to understand at times.
"I'm here working for my cousin hopefully saving up money for college. He actually lives in Arlington though, He just had a meeting and i wanted to explore. Bad idea." He smile at me walking at a very slow pace
"That pretty cool I actually live in Arlington except for the summer then i go back home."
"Really? where are you from?" I was so interested in what he had to say i have never met someone from outside the country
"I'm from Sweden and I always miss it when I come here."
"Well that explains the blond hair blue eyes and accent. Well Nick then what brings you to D.C.?"
He gave a quirky smile that made me laugh. It was cute.
"Whats so funny? Well Kate to answer your question my job also brings me to D.C." For the life of me I know I have seen him before but I just couldn't remember.
"What do you do?" I hope he would say something that would point to how i knew his face.

"I do! I do it has been driving me crazy and I finally figured it out your Nicklas Backstrom and if its any use to you I totally thought you should have won the Calder trophy." He laughed at me
"Looks like you figured me out and thanks but Patrick Kane is a really good played I was surprised I was nominated." A guy that is not full of himself. that was new for me. Brian thought he was the best guy on this planet.
"Well here is the building I hope you find your cousin."
"Thank you so much for walking me it was really nice." I was hoping he would ask for my number because i didn't want to do it.
He said bye and started to walk away. I was disappointed. I opened the door to the building when I heard him call out.
"Wait a second. I don't normally do this but I don't no do you think I could um get your number?" a big sigh of relief I almost thought I did it out loud he was so shy about doing it too which made it more cute.
"Yeah but just to let you know my phone is dead right now so if you try to text me in the next 5 minutes which i know you will do I won't respond." He laughed and looked like he started to blush.
"Thanks I also wanted to ask if you wanted to come to our morning skate its right in Arlington and its free maybe we could do lunch after of something, if your not working."

"I'm not mad at all I was just really worried you know your brothers will kill me if anything happens to you."
"I know, but guess who walked me back here because i was lost."
"Who may that be."
"Nicklas Backstrom." His mouth dropped almost to the floor.

Chaper 2
"You are so lucky the airport is 10 minutes away, I am flipping out right now!" My mom looked back at me a smiled
"Don't worry you know your dad would never let you miss your flight." My dad chimed in. "You should trust me by now to get you to places on time." I could see him looking at me through the rear view mirror. I smiled back.
"Yeah yeah whatever its just because you have a lead foot." I unpacked my bags and checked them in. This was it all I had to do was walk through the medal detector and I wasn't going to see my parents until Thanksgiving. My mom had already started the water works and I could see my dads chin quivering. Its funny how my parents are both emotional and they popped out a baby that could hardly show any emotion. I knew how I felt in my heart and that's all that mattered I knew I loved them and I didn't need to cry. I gave them both a hug and a kiss and got in line. They both watched me until the couldn't see me anymore. Being the youngest and having 4 brothers it was harder for them to see the last one leave the nest.
The plane ride was 5 hours and I could not wait to get to my cousins house.
"Hey there Kat what took you so long I was thinking you missed your plane because you slept in." My cousin Josh greeted me with a punch on the shoulder and a hug.
"I swear I hate when you call me Kat I feel like I should meow or something." He smile "Well get used to it KAT your working for me now you will be hearing a lot of it." I could not stop smiling I have not seen my cousin in a year and our family has always been close he was like my best friend.
I settled into my room and started to unpack my stuff when a knock came on the door. "Hey I have to go to the office real quick we have some new fliers they want me to approve, you ok here by yourself." I thought for a second "Hey i got and idea how about you drive me to D.C and while your in the meeting I can explore.
"Sounds like a plan."
we got in the car and headed to D.C.
"So Arlington seems boring." I wanted to start some conversation
"It's not bad i mean you haven't seen anything yet. You will like it here."
"Yeah I was just kidding anyway." He looked at me and laugh
"Um yeah ok." He said sarcastically
We made it to D.C. really quick and it was beautiful. I know its the U.S. capital but I did not think it would be this beautiful. I Practically ran out of the car I was so excited to explore.
"Now I want you to be careful ok and if you need me call. At around 6 meet me at my office i don't want you to be out here alone when its dark you might get lost here are the directions to my office from china town, once again call me if you need me." I shot him a look that said i wasn't a baby.
"I will be fine."
I started to walk around and realize I should have listened to josh about getting lost this place was huge. I made my way back to china town It was about 8:00. I had gotten lost. My phone had died and i was starting to worry.
"Do you need some help?" I turned around to see some blond guy with a accent looking at me. He look really familiar but I was too worried about being lost to try and think.
"Um yeah I need to get to this office building but I'm not from here and I'm really lost." He smiled and walk towards me and I couldn't help but notice his gorgeous eyes.
"I'm not from here either but i spend a lot of my time here let me see the map, oh and by the way my name is Nick." I have not been with another guy for 2 years besides Brian so i had no idea if he was hitting on me or not, or i was just blowing him helping me way out of proportion.
"I'm Kate, thanks for helping me."
"It's not a problem, so seeing your Avalanche sweatshirt your a hockey fan." I looked down at my sweatshirt like i didn't Know what was on it.

"Kate wake up, you need to get up right now!" I rolled over trying to understand what the clock said.
"Holy crap its 7:30." I nearly fell out of bed almost knocking my mother over."
"Good to see you up" flashing me a smile. "Are you excited today's the big day miss raccoon!"
she chuckled
"yeah I only wish i had time to enjoy it. Where are my bags?" I looked in the mirror to only notice i had left my makeup on from last night and it looked like i had just been in a fight.
"You should know your dad by now you have only lived with him 19 years now, they are in your car already. want me to make you a quick breakfast?"
I knew i didn't have much time to eat but i did want and egg sandwich "Could you make me your famous egg sandwich one last time before i leave?" I could see the sadness in her eyes when I said that.
"don't you dare make me cry this early." she gave me a kiss on the forehead and headed downstairs.
I quickly ran to the bathroom and hopped in the shower. I started to think about Colorado and how many things I'm going to miss. I had never left Denver and going all the way to Virginia was going to be different. I only hoped that i would be able to enjoy myself at my new job. All i could think about was how much money it payed and soon enough i would be able to go to college.
My family had never been rich, but we weren't broke. I remember my junior year and my mom and dad sitting me down, my mother in tears telling me they could not afford to send me to college. All i could think about was all my friends heading off to college and me being stuck here.
now my cousin has offered me a job in promoting clubs In D.C. This job could be a lot of fun or a disaster.
"Kate you better hurry up of you are going to have to eat this in the car." I quickly threw on some jeans and my Avs sweatshirt. My hair was going to have to air dry.
"Man does that smell so good my stomach is making all sorts of sounds, i better chow down."
"Brian is here to say goodbye too, want me to tell him your busy?" my mom looked at me and I sighed "No I will say goodbye but i hope he doesn't think this is a proper apology."
Brian and me had been dating for 2 years after he found out I was moving to Virginia 2 weeks ago he flipped out on me and had not called me since.
"Hey... I really don't know what to say to you. I know I was wrong but you have to understand you sprung this on me and i was never prepared for it."
He had this secret weapon of puppy dog eyes that sometimes i don't even think he is trying anymore he has just gotten so good at them they come naturally.
"don't look at me like that. and do you think you could possible hold a long distance relationship, no offense Brian but you are one of those guys that needs a girl by him 24/7."
I was not going to fall for those eyes again.
"Yeah i understand, but i just want you to know that I love you and i always want to be friends and be able to call you in Virginia even if i do find someone else and you move on." before i could even object he grabbed me into his arms and gave me a huge hug and a kiss on the head.
"You have some crazy way of making me not hate you, let me get you the number... um better not tell my mom she thinks your a bad influence." He rolled his eyes and laughed a bit.
I watched him pull off and wondered if he was who I was suppose to marry. I quickly pinched my self and realized I have crazy thoughts sometimes. Before could turn around to go grab my pillows someone grabbed me form behind and lifted me up.
"There she is! bout time you woke up." My dad was a crazy morning person, he would wake up at 4 and be fine all day.
"Good morning dad, and i love you but i can't breath." He laughed and put me down, even though i was 19 to my dad i was still his little girl.
"Where is your mom, we better get going its 8:36."
"8:36?!! dad my plane leaves at 9:00!"
